Website maintenance

Post by mojavemark » Mon Aug 24, 2009 6:11 pm

Some time this week, most likely starting this Friday night, maybe sooner, the website and forum may be down for a while for some much needed server side file maintenance and forum update.

Some of the stuff I am going to do may take the site down for a while. In the past I have gotten a message it might take up to 48 hours for the changes to take effect, but it always within 15 minutes the site is up and going again.

If you are looking for a particular feature of our web site and can't find it, be sure to look around on the home page real well as some of the file structure of the site may have to be change a little. I will post up if there are to be any major changes.

Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and thanks in advance for your patience.

Just as a heads up, Friday night I will be upgrading the forum software so it might go down for a bit. Should not be more than an hour or so.

Mark are you going to get rid of the people off of our site that does not want to join our club. Say anyone with 20 or less emails for the forum. I figure if they have so few emails they are not invested into the club at all.

I don't think it is in the best interest of the club, or off road community in general to make the entire forum a members only. Though I do plan on having a revamped "Premium Members" area for dues paying members.

One thing I do plan on doing is weeding out those that have signed up and never left a post or signed in in the last few months. I will do this just to help keep the forum more manageable and keep the data base size down.

Thanks Todd. With I could take all the credit, but most of it goes to the people over at phpbb.com that wrote the software. But hey, I did get it installed right, well maybe, we'll see, after a couple days.

Thanks Mudryder. I was wondering about the new post thing. One thing you can do is when you log on, right above the first category {General} is three little links: View unanswered posts • View new posts • View active topics : click on the one that says View new posts and that will bring up all the threads that have new posts in them. I think I will look into better icons for new links.

As far as our club address, it can be found on the website at http://MidMissouriMudslingers.org/contact.htm.

Hope this helps. Mark
